Dentures & PartialsGreer, SC

Are you missing some or all of your permanent teeth? Do you need restorative dental treatment to get your smile back? Dr. Adam Carraway provides full and partial dentures to his patients in Greer, SC. Dentures are traditionally removable but can also be fixed with dental implants. Tooth implants provide strength and stability to dental restorations, including dentures. Although implants require a longer treatment process, they last longer and help retain the bite.

Traditional Removable Dentures

Usually when you think of dentures, these are what you’re thinking of. Removable dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth. Suction adheres them to the gums and soft tissue, with the help of adhesives if needed. We take impressions of your mouth and a dental lab makes them custom for your smile. The size, shape, and color of the teeth on the denture are designed to look natural and restore your smile.

Dentures are the quickest and most cost-effective way to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. With the developments in dental technology, they’re more effective and look and feel more natural in your mouth. But removable dentures still carry extra maintenance. You have to take them out at night to give your gums time to rest or they become irritated. Especially if you use adhesive, they need to be thoroughly cleaned every night as well.

Your jawbone continues to deteriorate when you have traditional dentures. They don’t replace the tooth root. While they’re the cheapest solution upfront, it’s likely that you’ll need to replace or adjust your dentures at least once throughout your lifetime. The costs of this and adhesives add up as the years go by.

Implant Dentures

Whenever possible, we recommend implant dentures for our patients. Instead of being removable, these are fixed dentures that attach to dental implants strategically placed in your jaw. You don’t need an implant to replace every tooth, cutting down the cost on the implants themselves. They stay in your mouth and you can just brush and floss them like you would your normal teeth.

Implant dentures bring all the benefits of dental implants. The implant posts spur jawbone regeneration so your jawbone doesn’t deteriorate like with traditional dentures. When you get implant dentures, you don’t have to worry about replacing them or getting them readjusted in the future. You get back 100% of your bite function, too. You’re not at risk to have your dentures slip or fall out when you’re eating or speaking.

Denture FAQs

Learn more about full and partial dentures below:

Should I still schedule routine appointments after denture treatment?

Yes, patients should continue visiting our office after their denture treatment. Even if you are replacing all of your teeth with dentures, the health of your gums still needs to be maintained. Patients with dental restorations are still at risk of developing gum health problems. Remember to clean your dentures and schedule biannual visits to our office.

Are dentures permanent?

Both full and partial dentures can be made permanent with dental implants. Removable dentures often do not last as long as implant-supported dentures because they are not secured and can move around the mouth. Implant-supported dentures replace teeth at the root for a more stable and long-lasting result.

Do dentures look like natural teeth?

Yes, our dentures look and feel natural because we use tooth crowns. Dental crowns cover dental implants and are used for larger prosthetics like dentures to restore multiple missing teeth. Tooth crowns are made of reflective porcelain that matches the natural color of teeth.
